Welcome to the 4th Australasian Vaccines and Immunotherapeutics Development Meeting Website
This years meeting was held at the Brisbane Convention and Exhibition Centre bfrom the 2nd - 4th May, 2012
The concession of the Nobel Prize to Bruce Beutler and Jules Hoffman "for their discoveries concerning the activation of innate immunity"; and to Ralph Steinman "for his discovery of the dendritic cell and its role in adaptive immunity" is testament to the spectacular advances that have taken place over the past ten years in the areas of pathogen detection and initiation and regulation of immune responses. These advances underpin current efforts to produce new vaccines and immunotherapeutic products to prevent or treat infectious diseases, autoimmunity, transplant rejection and cancer.
As in previous editions, AVID 2012 provided a forum to discuss emerging concepts in vaccine design and immunotherapeutic drug development, spanning from basic mechanisms to translation and commercialisation.
